Man shot to death discovered in Midlands road Monday night

The body of a man shot to death was discovered in a Midlands road Monday by Sumter County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

Christopher Archie, 26, was declared dead at the scene in a incident that law enforcement called senseless.

Shortly after 9 p.m., deputies responded to a shots fired call in the 4400 block of Amelia Drive in the Cherryvale Community in Sumter County, according to public information officer Ken Bell.

Deputies found the body of a black male who appeared to be in his late 20s lying in the roadway deceased, Bell said. It appeared Archie had been shot one time.

Bell said the shooting appears to be an isolated incident, but the investigation is continuing. That will include the Sumter County Coroner’s Office.
