One person dead, another injured in Midlands shooting
One person was killed and another was injured in a shooting in Hopkins on Tuesday, according to the Richland Coutny Sheriff’s Department.
The incident was reported around 12:30 p.m., outside of a residence in the 1500 block of Clarkson Road, at Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard.
The incident was a verbal altercation that turned deadly when shots were fired, according to public information officer Lt. Curtis Wilson.
The people involved in the shooting were not identified, but Wilson said one was an employee of the coroner’s office and the other worked for refuge control.
The coroner’s office employee was killed, according to multiple reports.
The status of the refuge control employee injured in the shooting is not known, but is believed to be a non-life threatening injury.
The two people are the only suspects involved in the incident, according to Wilson.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate the shooting.
