Ex-con from Columbia going back to prison for failing to register as a sex offender
A Columbia man is returning to prison because he didn’t register as a sex offender after moving to New York.
Kerwin Eugene Brown, 39, was sentenced to three years in prison for failure to register as a sex offender, according to U.S. Attorney Beth Drake.
In 2005, Brown pleaded guilty to assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature in the Richland County Court of General Sessions and was required to register as a sex offender before being sentenced to 8 years in prison, Drake’s office reported.
Brown moved to New York in 2013 and the FBI determined that Brown had been had not registered as a sex offender, according to Drake’s office. He acknowledged registering as a sex offender in April 2010 and through 2013, but stopped when he moved to New York.
