A South Carolina woman’s domestic partner has been arrested for setting her house on fire Tuesday.

Emily Coatney, 39, has been charged with second-degree arson for the incident that occurred in North Augusta, according to the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, which said more charges might be coming.

Around 11:30 a.m., deputies responded to a domestic disturbance call at the Frances Drive house, according to Capt. Eric M. Abdullah. Deputies discovered that the woman who called them had been involved in an argument with Coatney, her domestic partner, and Coatney had threatened to burn the house down.

Shortly after 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office responded to the same house for a residential fire, Abdullah said.

A witness told deputies they saw a white male running from the home when the windows blew out as a result of the fire, according to Abdullah. It was determined that the person seen running from the residence was Coatney, who was arrested by the North Augusta Department of Public Safety at an area Papa John’s Pizza.

Coatney has been taken to the Aiken County Detention Center where she was being held Tuesday night.

The incident remains under investigation by the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.
