A Columbia man was arrested Tuesday on allegations that he injured the brain of his infant daughter.
Robert Marvin Ray, 31, is facing charges of abuse to inflict great bodily injury upon a child. He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
Ray told investigators that his 8-month-old had fallen from a swing and landed on her head on Jan. 6, said Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon in an agency news release. But medical professionals determined the injuries were not consistent with a fall, but with child abuse, Koon said.
The infant girl suffered an injury that caused her to permanently lose function in the right half of her brain, the release stated. She also had injuries to her leg, face and ears.
