He broke into a female friend’s Columbia home, assaulted a man and fled from police
A man accused of breaking into a female friend’s Columbia home and assaulting a man inside has been arrested by the Columbia Police Department.
Vernon Lee Hayes III, 24, is charged with second degree burglary and first degree assault and battery and failure to stop on police command, police said.
Hayes is accused of breaking into a female friend’s Bailey Street home on Jan. 8, and assaulting a man before running away from the scene, according to police. A K-9 Unit tracked Hayes to Grant Street.
Hayes was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, where he was still being held Wednesday afternoon.
