7-year-old seriously injured in Midlands hit-and-run

A 7-year-old boy was seriously injured in a hit-and-run incident in Sumter County Wednesday.

The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Highway 15, near Cockrill Road, according to South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. David Jones.

The boy was airlifted to an area hospital in serious condition with life-threatening injuries, Jones said.

The driver of the vehicle believed to involved in the incident left the scene, Jones said, adding the vehicle of interest was later located.

The SC Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident.
