Coroner IDs man shot dead at Columbia apartment complex
A man was shot dead at a Columbia apartment complex Saturday, according to police.
The shooting happened early Saturday evening on the 7700 block of Bailey Street, which is the Colony Apartments just off West Beltline Boulevard, the department said on Twitter. Officers found a male victim dead from his injuries.
Richland County Coroner Gary Watts on Sunday identified the victim as 26-year-old Jerome D. Palmer, of Bailey Street. Palmer died of a gunshot wound to the upper body, Watts said.
Details are limited, but police say they are questioning people and following “strong leads” in the killing. There’s been no word on charges.
The complex where the shooting happened is located across West Beltline Boulevard from W.A. Perry Middle School and T.S. Martin Park.
