Midlands man charged with sexually assaulting 3 children

A Lugoff man is charged with three counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor after officials say he admitted to engaging in sexual activity with three children, including for four years with one of the children.

David Adam Barton, 42, has been arrested and charged by the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials were notified of the sexual allegations against Barton on Jan. 14.

Barton admitted to the activity he has been accused of, which includes sexually assaulting three children under the age of 11 and 14, officials say.

The activity had been going on for four years with one of the children, beginning when the child was 9 years old and continuing to this month, according to the sheriff’s office.

Barton is charged with two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 11 years of age and one county of criminal sexual conduct with a minor under 14. Additional charges may be filed.

Barton has no previous criminal record, officials say.
