Midlands woman cheated her company out of more than $100,000, was her sentence fair?
A Chapin woman, who was the bookkeeper for a Columbia-area business, is going to prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $100,000 from her employer.
Yvonne Sanchez, 40, was sentenced to fifteen months in prison Wednesday for committing bank fraud, according to U.S. Attorney Beth Drake. The Chapin woman has also been ordered to pay restitution of $121,461.76 to the victim.
From July 2014 through June 2016, Sanchez was the bookkeeper for EveryWord, Inc., a court reporting business and was supposed to be depositing checks made payable to EveryWord into a legitimate business account at First Community.
Instead, Sanchez opened fake accounts in the name of EveryWord at All South Federal Credit Union, according to the Drake’s office, and Wells Fargo, based on information provided by EveryWord.
Sanchez then diverted the checks into her own accounts for her personal use, according to Drake’s office. Overall, Sanchez defrauded EveryWord of $121,461.76.
