Man faces additional charges in Sumter County arson case
A Sumter County resident is facing additional charges in connection with an arson case, according to department spokesman Braden Bunch.
Brandon Cory Dowless, 24, has been charged with two counts of criminal domestic violence, which are in addition to a third degree arson charge, Bunch said.
Dowless threated to a kill a 24-year-old woman over the phone, according to warrants.
The conversation, which occurred while the victim was in the presence of law enforcement, happened shortly after the victim’s home had been destroyed by the fire, Bunch said.
Dowless is accused of intentionally burning down the woman’s home on the 4000 block of Livingwood Drive shortly after 6 p.m. last Thursday, Bunch said.
Dowless was arrested last Thurday and remains at the Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center, Bunch said.
