Richland County man accused of shooting 2, killing 1 arrested in Miami

Note: In October 2020, Curtis Hicks was found not guilty of all charges, according to court records.

A man authorities say shot two people at an apartment complex off Broad River Road, killing one of them, was captured in Florida on Tuesday.

Curtis Hicks, 38, was arrested in Miami on Tuesday. He is facing a charges of murder and attempted murder.

Hicks is accused of shooting two men on Saturday in the 600 block of Old Mason Road around 10 a.m., according to a Richland County Sheriff’s Department news release. They were rushed to Palmetto Health Richland hospital, where one of the men was pronounced dead. The other remains hospitalized.

The man killed was identified by Richland County Coroner Gary Watts as D’Angelo Jamal Perry, 20.

Investigators determined that Perry was helping his friend – the surviving shooting victim –and the survivor’s mom move out of Hicks’ home, the release stated. The woman and Hicks had ended their relationship.

Hicks is accused of driving by and firing his weapon, killing Perry and injuring his friend.

Additional charges could be forthcoming.
