Laurens County woman who told police she had been kidnapped filed false report, will be facing charges
Investigators with the Newberry County Sheriff’s Department are trying to find out why a Laurens County woman filed a false report with police she alleged her daughter had been kidnapped early Tuesday morning.
According to authorities, Laurens County 911 received a call from a woman stating that her daughter had been kidnapped and placed in the trunk of a vehicle while visiting her grandfather’s home in the Helena area of Newberry County.
Newberry and Laurens county sheriff’s departments began an intensive search for the woman’s daughter following the call. Law enforcement found the daughter later in the morning locked in the trunk of her car near Toolshed Road in Laurens County. Law enforcement then initiated another search involving blood hounds and helicopters in an attempt to locate a suspect.
The daughter told law enforcement that she had been kidnapped at her grandfather’s home by an unknown male and was driven around throughout the night. But investigators began to find inconsistencies in the daughter’s story, and she eventually admitted to filing a false report.
Officials are investigating to determine why the report was filed and are working with the 8th Circuit Solicitor’s Office to determine what charges will be made.
