An Elgin man is facing multiple charges, including second degree criminal sexual conduct and incest, according to Kershaw County Sheriff Jim Matthews.

Steven Wayne Scott, 41, who lives on Garlits Drive in Elgin, has been charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature, unlawful conduct toward a child and obstructing justice, Matthews said. He has also been charged with second degree criminal sexual conduct and incest, Matthews said.

Deputies responded to a 911 call from a child living at the Garlits Drive address, Matthews said. Deputies found a minor child with numerous non-life threatening injuries.

Deputies also found Scott’s wife who had injuries to her face, Matthews said. One deputy overheard Scott tell his 18-year-old son to admit to the assaults so that he would not be arrested.

Scott was initially taken to Kershaw Health after he complained of chest pains and demonstrated suicidal tendencies, Matthews said. Scott spent two days in the hospital before being released to deputies and taken to the Kershaw County Detention Center.

Scott is accused of sexually assaulting people living in his residence in Kershaw County as well as in other jurisdictions outside of Kershaw County, Matthews said.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges may be filed in Kershaw County and other counties, Matthews said.
