UPDATE: Columbia man charged in Elgin bank robbery
A Crime Stopper tip lead to the arrest of a Columbia man following the Wednesday morning robbery of the First Palmetto Citizens Bank at 10540 Two Notch Road in Elgin.
George Raymond Oswald was taken into custody at his home, Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said in a news release.
Around 10 am, a man walked in to the Elgin First Palmetto Citizens Bank and presented a note to the teller demanding money, Sheriff Leon Lott said. The suspect then showed the employee his handgun.
The suspect stole cash and fled, Lott said. Witnesses saw the suspect get into a silver full-size Dodge pickup truck with a black stripe along the side.
Oswald was being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center Wednesday night.
