Aiken County deputies arrested a man accused of firing a weapon in the New Holland Fire Department parking lot Tuesday evening.
Chad Barker has been charged with two counts of pointing and presenting a firearm, according to Aiken County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Captain Eric Abdullah.
Deputies responded to a call about shots fired at the New Holland Fire Department around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Abdullah said. Fire department personnel had Barker detained when deputies arrived.
Witnesses said Barker drove into the parking lot in his own vehicle, Abdullah said. He exited his vehicle, then discharged his weapon into the vehicle. He also pointed the weapon at bystanders in the parking lot.

Firefighters were also armed during the incident, according to Abdullah.
Fire department personnel were able to get the weapon away from Barker without a struggle and detain him, Abdullah said. Barker was taken to an area hospital for a self-inflicted laceration and then to the Aiken County Detention Center.
Investigators determined Barker was grossly intoxicated at the time of the incident, Abdullah said. No injuries were reported.
