2 men arrested after fleeing Columbia car crash

The driver and passenger of a vehicle involved in a crash in the 1100 block of Elmwood Avenue face several charges after fleeing the scene, Columbia police say.

Lawrence Green, 29, is accused of drunken driving and other charges stemming from leaving the scene after his car ran a red light and hit another car shortly after 6 a.m. Saturday, police said.

He ignored warnings to stay and was stopped a block away, police said.

Brandon Carter, 29, the passenger, was charged with drunkenness and possession of marijuana after he left and was found later at Jefferson and Sumter streets, police said.

The driver of the other car did not suffer major injury, police said.
