A Rock Hill man was charged with drunken driving after crashing his truck into a parked York County patrol car this weekend.

Cesar Cortez, 23, was charged by the Highway Patrol with DUI, Lance Cpl. Gary Miller said. Cortez was traveling south on North Cherry Road about midnight Saturday, Miller said, when his GMC truck veered into the median and hit the patrol car head-on.

The deputy was sitting in his patrol car in the roadway median when the other vehicle crashed into his vehicle, said Trent Faris, a York County sheriff’s spokesman. The patrol car did not have its blue lights on.

Cortez, his passenger and the deputy were taken to Piedmont Medical Center, Miller said. All were wearing seat belts. Faris said the deputy suffered minor injuries.

The collision is being investigated by the Highway Patrol. The sheriff’s office released the dash-cam video late Monday afternoon.
