Sumter County authorities investigating shooting during home invasion that left two wounded
Sumter County sheriff’s deputies are investigating a Thursday morning shooting that left two men wounded after an apparent home invasion, authorities say.
Braden Bunch, a sheriff’s office spokesman, said deputies responded to reports of a burglary in process at a residence located in the 100 block of Brentwood Drive in Sumter County at 12:15 a.m. When deputies arrived, they located two men who suffered from apparent gunshot wounds in the front yard of the residence.
Bunch said one of the victims, who was shot in the neck, was transported to a local hospital via helicopter where they were listed in critical condition Thursday morning. the other shooting victim was also transported to a local hospital, but their condition was not made immediately available.
During a preliminary investigation of the residence, deputies discovered signs of both a struggle and gun-play inside of the residence. Shell casing from multiple weapons were recovered at the scene, Bunch said.
