Camden policeman charged with child neglect

CAMDEN, SC A Camden policeman was charged with felony child neglect Thursday after an investigation by the State Law Enforcement Division.

Roger Dale Burris III, 30, allegedly admitted repeatedly hitting his four-year-old son with a belt and his hand during a two hour period on Sunday, May 4th.

The boy had “extensive bruising” on his bottom and legs as a result of the incidents, the warrant stated.

Burris was formally booked at the Kershaw County Detention Center on Thursday. If convicted, he could be fined and/or sentenced to jail for no more than 10 years, SLED said in a news release.
