Deputies: Two suspects forced their way in to hotel room and wounded one in shooting

Richland County sheriff’s deputies are searching for two suspects after an early Sunday morning shooting at a hotel left one injured, authorities say,

Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said Lexington County sheriff’s deputies responded to the Quality Inn hotel located in the 400 block of Piney Grove Road at around 10:30 a.m. in reference to a shots-fired call. When the deputies arrived they located a male victim in one of the hotels rooms who was suffering from a gunshot wound.

Lawrence said the victim told the deputies that he was in his room when two black suspects forced their way through his room door. A struggle between the men ensued and then one of the suspects began firing multiple shots at the victim. The victim was then struck in the upper body, and the suspects fled the scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is in stable condition, Lawrence said.

Lexington County sheriff’s deputies then called in Richland County investigators to take lead on the case due to jurisdictional lines, according to Lawrence.

If anybody has information regarding the shooting, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
