Two students at Byrnes High School have been charged with voyeurism after deputies say they took a photograph up a teacher’s dress.

Richard Darrell West, 18, of 130 Douglas Lane in Duncan, and Gavin Kelley Alling, 17, of 1072 Hampton Road in Lyman, were arrested Saturday and taken to the Spartanburg County jail.

Both are accused of taking a picture of a teacher under her dress using a cell phone without her knowledge during class time.

Police were notified by the school after students came forward and told administrators about the incident. They said West had shown them the picture, a Duncan Police Department incident report states.

The report states that Alling confessed to the incident.

Byrnes administration immediately notified law enforcement after students reported what had taken place, said Melissa Robinette, a Spartanburg County School District 5 spokeswoman.

She said per school district policy, West and Alling will be recommended for expulsion.

“District Five Schools takes matters of teacher and staff privacy extremely seriously. When students are accused of breaking the law in regards to such privacy, we will deal with them accordingly,” Robinette said.
