A man was arrested Monday night after police say he stabbed a man to death earlier this month in Columbia.

Antonio Deron Alston, 40, was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime after he allegedly stabbed Rodney Parish Stewart, 33, multiple times.

Alston, who was arrested during a traffic stop in Swansea, was arguing with Steward July 8 when the argument began to escalate, according to a Columbia Police statement. Alston grabbed a “bladed instrument” and stabbed Stewart.

Stewart, who was stabbed on the 2400 block of Kent Street, was pronounced dead five days later, according to the statement.

Alston was taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
