Woman found dead after burglary reported at Columbia home

Columbia police are investigating the death of a woman who was found when officers responded to a burglary at a Rosewood home Thursday.

Officers responded to a burglary call at a home on the 900 block of Huntington Avenue on Thursday morning, the police department said in a tweet this afternoon. There, they found the front door to the home open and a woman dead inside.

The home sits just off Montgomery Avenue, not far from Rosewood Park and Memorial Stadium.

The Richland County Coroner’s Office will identify the woman after the next of kin is notified.

Police say the death is suspicious.
