Five people were treated for gunshot wounds Wednesday after a gunman walked up to a South Carolina home, where family members were mourning the death of a relative, and opened fire, according to sheriff’s officials.
The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Mimosa Court in Greenwood County, about 80 miles northwest of Columbia, according to a release from the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Office. Family members were gathered in a yard to remember a relative who died recently.
An unidentified person walked up to the crowd and began shooting, according to an incident report.
Five people were treated for gunshot wounds at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, according to the release.
A baby at the home also was injured, sheriff’s officials told the Index-Journal. EMS treated the child on scene.
A person at the gathering returned fire when the shooting started, the newspaper reported.
There have been no arrests.
