He jumped from moving car, crashed into home. Now Richland deputies are on the hunt

Richland County sheriff’s deputies are searching for a man they say ran from a traffic stop and jumped from a moving car, which then crashed into a house in the Apple Valley neighborhood off Broad River Road.

It started around 8:30 a.m. Monday when a deputy spotted a car that had been reported stolen about 20 minutes prior, said Deputy Katelyn Jasak, a spokeswoman for the Richland County Sheriff’s Department.

The deputy activated their blue lights, and the suspect refused to stop. The suspect circled the neighborhood, striking multiple mailboxes, before jumping from the moving vehicle and fleeing on foot, Jasak said. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a dark shirt and shorts. The car crashed into a residence, but no injuries were reported.

Officials don’t believe there is a threat to the public at this time.
