A Lexington County man was sentenced to 13 years in prison after he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl, according to a statement from the Eleventh Circuit Solicitors Office.

Steven E. Mays, Jr., 41, of Pelion, pleaded guilty to charges of criminal sexual conduct with a minor, but still faces charges of DUI which resulted in a death, according to a spokeswoman at the solicitors office.

Mays will serve 13 years after assaulting the 15-year-old girl in August 2015, according to the statement. He assaulted her in his home, which at the time was on Busbee Road in Gaston.

Police found DNA evidence at the scene, which verified what the girl told them, according to the statement.

Mays was transferred to the S.C. Department of Corrections to serve out his sentence, but still faces an upcoming trial and more criminal charges, Suzane Mayes of the Solicitors Office said.

In July, Mays was charged with DUI resulting in a death, according to court records.
