1 killed in overnight shooting in Columbia

A man was killed in a shooting near the Broad River in Columbia early Monday, according to officials.

The shooting happened just after 3 a.m. on the 300 block of McRae Street, according to a Columbia police spokesman. That’s just off U.S. 176 and next to the Columbia Canal.

Details are limited, but police say there was one victim. Richland County Coroner Gary Watts confirmed his office is involved in the investigation.

No arrests have been made. The victim’s identity will be released by the coroner after the next of kin is notified.

Police investigators are still trying to determine what led up to the deadly shooting. Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
