Chainsaw thief assaulted employee who tried to stop him, Lexington County Sheriff says

A man stole a chainsaw from a Columbia hardware store and assaulted an employee, according to a tweet from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Now the sheriff’s department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect who was filmed taking the power tool by surveillance video.

The incident occurred at Northern Tool + Equipment, according to the sheriff’s department’s tweet. That store is located in the 4000 block of Fernandina Road in Columbia.

Surveillance footage shared by the sheriff’s department shows the suspect walking out of the store without paying for the chainsaw.

Witnesses said the suspect then “assaulted an employee right outside the store,” according to the tweet from the sheriff’s department.
