Elderly couple attacked, robbed in daytime home invasion, SC cops say
An elderly South Carolina couple were attacked, bound and robbed when two men forced their way into the couple’s home during the day, according to deputies.
The daytime home invasion happened just after 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at a home on the 4700 block of Festival Trail Road in the Perry area of Aiken County, according to a release from the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office. That’s about 35 miles southwest of Columbia.
The victims were an 87-year-old man and his 80-year-old wife, according to an incident report cited by the Aiken Standard.
Both were at home Wednesday when a man knocked on the door and asked to use the phone because his car had run out of gas, according to WRDW. When the male victim went to get the phone, the intruders forced their way in, the station reported.
One of the suspect was armed with a handgun, WFXG reported. The male victim said he was hit on the head by one of the suspects, and his wife had bruises on her face and ankle.
Sheriff’s deputies say the couple were physically assaulted, bound and robbed. The victims were able to describe one of the suspects to a sketch artist.
Anyone with information about the home invasion or the whereabouts or identities of the suspects is asked to call the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office at 803-648-6811 or Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
