A Gaston woman faces attempted murder and weapon charges after stabbing a family member during an argument, according to the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.

Stacy Lynn Chasteen, 46, is charged with attempted murder and using a weapon during a violent crime, the sheriff’s department said Wednesday. The incident happened Tuesday night at Chasteen’s home on Woodcrest Lane.

“Based on the interviews investigators conducted on the scene, this all began as a family argument over finances,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a release.

A deputy encountered Chasteen on his way to the scene and detained her, sheriff’s officials said.

The family member was taken to a hospital with a stab wound to the upper body and is expected to make a full recovery, according to the sheriff’s department.

Attempted murder carries up to 30 years in prison, under South Carolina law.
