Columbia hit-and-run leaves pedestrian dead, coroner says

A South Carolina man is dead after he was hit by a car while walking on a Columbia road, according to a statement from the Richland County Coroner’s office.

Roderick D’Wayne Anderson, 23, of Winnsboro, was hit near the 9400 block of Monticello Road, according to the statement. He would have been 24 on Monday.

Anderson died after he was struck, according to the autopsy. The cause of death was blunt trauma to the head and torso.

After the crash, the car that hit Anderson drove away from the scene, according to the statement.

The S.C. Highway Patrol and the Richland County Coroner’s Office are investigating the crash. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Highway Patrol or Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
