Richland County deputies investigating shooting that wounded woman, 1-year-old child

A woman and her 1-year-old child suffered minor glass abrasions after a suspect fired several shots at her vehicle Wednesday evening, according to Richland County Sheriff’s Department officials.

Sgt. Kevin Lawrence, a department spokesman, said sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a gas station located in the 7900 block of Parklane Road near the I-277 exit in reference to a shooting. When deputies arrived they met with a woman who said she was traveling northbound on I-277 when she was flagged down by several men in a golden sedan.

Lawrence said the woman pulled off to the shoulder of the interstate and the suspects’ vehicle pulled in behind her. A black male suspect then got out of the car and pulled a handgun from his waistband and began firing several shots at the victim’s vehicle. The victim and her 1-year-old daughter were not struck by the bullets, but they did suffer from glass abrasions from the bullets hitting the vehicle’s windows.

The woman told deputies that the suspects then fled the area following the shooting, according to Lawrence.

If anyone has information regarding this incident they are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1 (888)-CRIME-SC.
