Three people have been taken to area hospitals following a shooting on Sunday, according to a tweet from the Springdale Police Department.

The shooting occurred on Sightler Drive in Lexington County, the police tweeted. That is located off Platt Springs Road, near Airport High School and Springdale Elementary School, and the Columbia Metropolitan Airport, according to Google Maps.

“A verbal altercation led to the shooting,” Springdale Police Chief Kevin Cornett told The State.

Cornett said only two of the three people hospitalized were shot, but did not know about their conditions. The Chief said the third person suffered minor, non-life threatening injuries in the altercation.

The three people were the only ones involved in the shooting and Cornett said there is no threat to the public.

The shooting occurred in the front yard of a residence where one of the people lived, Cornett told The State.

The shooting is being investigated by Springdale Police, with assistance from responding law enforcement agencies — the Cayce Department of Public Safety and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
