Prison guard beat inmate at minimum-security facility in Columbia, warrant says

A Columbia correctional officer was arrested after investigators say he assaulted an inmate at a minimum-security prison, according to a statement from the Department of Corrections.

Charles Ramon Williams was a guard at Manning Reentry/Work Release Center in Columbia when the assault occurred Thursday, according to the statement.

Williams hit an inmate in the face and pushed him into a bench, according to the statement. He continued to punch him once he was on the bench.

The guard was charged with misconduct in office and assault and battery after he was arrested by SCDC’s Police Services.
