Cayce teens receive unwanted pornographic messages over Snapchat, police seek suspect

AP

A Columbia-area man has been sending several Cayce teens unsolicited pornographic messages over the app Snapchat, according to an incident report from the Cayce Department of Public Safety.

Monday, a parent came to the police station to tell officers about the explicit messages her 9th grade daughter was receiving, according to the report.

The teen told police a man she did not know was using two different Snapchat user names to send her videos of two people engaging in sexual intercourse, according to the report. The messages started coming in around Dec. 15, she told officers.

Snapchat is a social media app where users can send photos, videos or messages to each other. Users can send messages that can disappear a certain amount of time after being viewed.

Two other girls in her class were also receiving the pornographic messages, the girl told police. The other girls also did not know who was sending the messages.

Using Snapchat’s geo-location map feature, the girls found that the man is in the Columbia area.

When the girls tried to block the screen name, the man made another account and began messaging them again, according to the report.

Police believe the messages could be advertisements or recruitment videos, according to the report.

The girls mother wishes to press charges once the man is identified, according to the report.
