Woman hit by car while crossing Columbia street, dies, police say

A pedestrian was killed Tuesday night after being hit by a car while crossing a Columbia road, according to a statement from the Columbia Police Department.

Patricia Frickey, 58, was crossing Garners Ferry Road near the 7300 block at about 9:30 p.m. when she was hit, according to the statement.

Frikey died from blunt force trauma sustained in the crash, according to Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.

Investigators believe Frickey was illegally crossing the road when she was hit by a car going east on Garners Ferry, according to the statement. The driver of the car stopped after the crash and was interviewed by officers.

Neither the pedestrian nor the driver seemed impaired, according to the statement.
