A woman was shot in the arm while in a car near Bluff Road Tuesday, according to tweets from the Columbia Police Department, which is pursuing a suspect.

The woman was a passenger in the car with family members when she was shot just before 3:30 p.m., police said in the tweets. She was taken to Greenlawn Memorial Park, where she waited for police officers to arrive around 4 p.m. The park is near Bluff Road and Interstate 77.

Police said the shooting might have been the result of road rage, according to a post on Twitter.

The woman’s injuries appear to be non-life-threatening, police say.

No other information on the woman’s condition has been provided.

On Tuesday night, there was a large police presence at a hotel in the 100 block of Veterans Road, where officers were following up information related to the shooting. Lt. R.L. White said the suspect was not at the America’s Best Value Inn, which is located near Dorn VA Medical Center and Garners Ferry Road.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC or submit an online tip.
