Columbia man identified as bicycle rider killed in car crash, Richland County Coroner says
A Columbia man riding a bicycle was killed in a collision with a car late Saturday night, the Richland County Coroner’s Office said.
The crash occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. in the 6700 block of Lower Richland Boulevard, according to a news release from Richland County Coroner Gary Watts.
Both the bike rider and the driver of a four-door Subaru were heading south on Lower Richland Boulevard when the car hit the bicycle, South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Watts identified the bicycle rider as Marcus Anderson. After the collision, the 30-year-old Columbia man was taken to an area hospital “where he died shortly after arriving in the ER,” Watts said in the news release.
The autopsy determined Anderson’s “cause of death was due to blunt force injuries to the head and neck,” according to the news release.
There is no word if the driver of the Subaru will face any criminal charges as a result of the deadly collision.
The fatal crash remains under investigation by highway patrol and the Richland County Coroner’s office.
