Murder suspect arrested at Columbia apartment after shooting a man, SC cops say
A man was arrested at a Columbia apartment Monday morning and charged with multiple crimes, including murder, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
A task force that included sheriff’s deputies, Columbia police officers and U.S. Marshals tracked down Deandre DeAngelo Sumpter, and took him in custody for his role in the “shooting death of an Orangeburg County man,” according to the news release.
Arrest warrants show the 27-year-old Orangeburg resident was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime.
He was wanted after Tevin Knotts was shot four times at an Orangeburg residence around 2 a.m. on March 13, according to arrest warrants.
The 25-year-old Knotts was found lying in the doorway of an apartment, and later died after being taken to two hospitals, the sheriff’s office said in the news release.
Deputies discovered bullet holes in the door of the apartment and found six shell casings on the scene, according to an incident report.
“We developed information this individual was our suspect, and through the help of these agencies in other jurisdictions, we were able to bring this subject back to Orangeburg,” Sheriff Leroy Ravenell said in a news release.
