Police are trying to locate a car that fled after colliding with a teen bicyclist in a Columbia crosswalk Tuesday morning.

It happened around 7:45 a.m. on North Main Street at Fairfield Road, Columbia police spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said.

A vehicle, possibly a silver or gray four-door Chevrolet Malibu or Impala with tinted windows and paper tags was traveling south on North Main and stopped at a red light, Timmons said. When the light turned green, both the 14-year-old bicyclist and female driver advanced and collided.

It appears that the teen accidentally rode into the side of the vehicle on the driver’s side, Timmons said.

The teen was taken to a local hospital for minor injuries, including scrapes and bruises, police said.

The female driver of the vehicle, fled the scene and did not stop to check on the victim, according to Timmons. Police are working to see if there is surveillance footage of the collision.
