Midlands parents allegedly attack woman, disabled husband at school bus stop, cops say
Two parents are facing assault and battery charges after allegedly attacking a couple at a Sumter County school bus stop, according to a statement from the local sheriff’s department.
Marquis Tyrell Rogers, 29, and Shanora Carter, 33, were arrested after the Thursday incident, which happened at the intersection of Wilma Court and Reona Avenue.
The incident started Thursday morning after a woman got into an argument with students waiting at the bus stop because they were standing in the roadway, according to the statement. Rogers and Carter were parents of one of the students, and the pair decided to wait in the roadway for the woman to return.
When the woman came back and got out of her car, Rogers allegedly assaulted the woman, according to the statement. He allegedly pushed the woman into Carter, who then assaulted her as well.
Rogers then neared the car and began hitting the woman’s husband in the face, according to the statement. The husband allegedly told Rogers he did not want to fight because he is disabled.
All the while, students were standing nearby the violent incident, according to the statement.
The woman ended up with bruises, a puncture wound to the back of the head and facial swelling, according to the statement. The man had severe facial injuries and lost consciousness during the altercation. Both were treated by emergency medics.
Both Rogers and Carter were charged with second degree assault and battery. Rogers was also charged with one count of third degree assault and battery.
