Car crashes, flips upside down near Columbia riverwalk, firefighters say

Columbia Fire crews responded to the scene of a crash Friday afternoon after a car left the roadway near a bridge, according to a Tweet from the fire department.

A car was traveling on River Drive near the Broad River Bridge when it left the road, according to the Tweet.

The car traveled down the embankment, but missed landing in the water. Two people were inside the car, and one was later taken to a local hospital.

Columbia firefighters responded to the crash at about 1 p.m. They were joined by both Columbia and Richland County law enforcement officers.

The Broad River Bridge is located near the northern part of the Vista Riverwalk. The bridge itself crosses the Columbia canal, as well as the nearby river.
