Body found on side of I-26 identified as Irmo man

The body found Sunday on the side of Interstate 26 in Laurens County has been identified as an Irmo man, according to officials.

Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek identified the man Monday as 23-year-old Malik Kluttz, of Lord Howe Road in Irmo. An autopsy on Kluttz is being conducted this morning, Cheek said.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call about a body on the side of the interstate near the Laurens County/Newberry County line around 7:30 a.m. Sunday, The Newberry Observer reported. 

The body was found in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 61, reports WLTX. 

Laurens County Sheriff Don Reynolds said the deceased person appeared to have two gunshot wounds, according to FOX Carolina.

A message left with the sheriff’s office Monday morning was not immediately returned.
