18-wheeler drove away after hitting, killing motorcyclist, SC troopers say
Troopers are searching for what they believe is an 18-wheeler that drove away after hitting and killing a motorcyclist in Sumter County Sunday night.
The deadly crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 378 and S.C. 527, according to Cpl. Sonny Collins of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
A 2018 Harley Davidson was traveling west on U.S. 378 when it collided with what troopers believe was an 18-wheeler at the intersection, Collins said. The motorcyclist died at the scene, and was not wearing a helmet, Collins said.
Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker on Monday identified the motorcyclist as 24-year-old Clayton Moore, of Congruity Road in Sumter. An autopsy is expected at a later date.
The vehicle that hit Moore did not stay at the scene, Collins said.
There was no information Monday morning on a description of the second vehicle.
