Five Points shooting suspect identified; police need help locating him
Columbia police have identified a suspect in a shooting that left two people injured at a Five Points bar early Sunday.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. at 632 Harden St., Columbia police said Sunday morning. That’s the address for The Cotton Gin.
Two people, both in their 20s, were shot in the lower body, police said. Medical staff told police their injuries appeared to be non-life threatening.
Police are looking for 22-year-old Marlon Adam White. Once located, White will be charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
The shooting was an isolated incident that was prompted by an argument between White and an employee of the bar, police said Sunday night. White was told the leave the bar and shot the first victim in the leg while being escorted out of the business.
The bullet exited the first victim and then hit the second victim, who was a patron at the bar, police said.
The gunman ran away after the shooting, USC police said.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance video from the area.
It is believed to be the first shooting in Five Points since a St. Patrick’s Day weekend incident in 2018 that left three people injured, one of them paralyzed from the neck down.
That shooting incident came days after a special project by The State that looked into Five Points’ identity crisis, and how major violent crimes in the area had actually decreased in recent years.
Anyone with information on Sunday’s shooting or White’s whereabouts is asked to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC. Callers will remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
