Coroner IDs man shot, killed at apartment complex on Stoneridge Drive

The Richland County Coroner has identified the person shot and killed early Wednesday morning at Tamarind Apartments on Stoneridge Drive.

Davaris Tramaine White, 27, was shot and killed around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to Coroner Gary Watts. White died from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Columbia police are investigating the early morning shooting that left White dead after a home break-in, according to officials.

The shooting happened at about 2 a.m. at the Tamarind Apartment complex located at 143 Stoneridge Drive, which is off Greystone Boulevard, according to Jennifer Timmons, a department spokeswoman.

Investigators believe the incident was not a random act of violence, Timmons said. The Richland County Coroner’s Office is assisting the Columbia police in the investigation.

Residents in the area told police they heard a woman screaming “I didn’t do it” early Wednesday morning.

Check back with The State for more details as they become available.
