An officer working at the jail in Richland County was arrested after allegedly bringing drugs into the facility, according to a statement from the local sheriff’s department.

Taliyah Fewell, 23, was charged with furnishing contraband to an inmate or detainee, according to the statement.

Investigators began looking into the case after staff members at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center found tobacco and marijuana behind a shower on April 1, according to the statement.

As the investigation continued, officers found several inmates who said Fewell provided them with drugs or they saw her bring contraband into the jail, according to the statement. One said he saw Fewell bring marijuana and a lighter in to the jail in a Skittles box.

May 6, investigators arrested Fewell at her apartment, according to the statement. While there, they allegedly found marijuana on her table.

Officers were given permission to search the home, and they found rolling papers and letters from a detainee housed at the detention center, according to the statement.

Investigators also found a stolen gun in the home, and subsequently arrested Fewell’s roommate’s boyfriend, who admitted the gun was in his possession, according to the statement. Dwantrez Keith, 32, was charged with possession of a stolen gun.

Both Fewell and Keith were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.
