Teen charged with murder after man was shot and thrown from moving car, SC cops say
A South Carolina teenager has been arrested on a murder charge after a man was shot multiple times and thrown from a moving vehicle Saturday, the Aiken County Sheriff’s office said.
Arrest warrants have been filed for Ricky Antwon Creech, who is facing charges of murder and possession of a weapon during commission of a violent crime, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
The 19-year-old North Augusta resident was arrested around 6:30 p.m. Sunday by the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office, an Aiken County sheriff’s spokesman said Monday.
The sheriff’s office said it received a 911 call just before 11 p.m. Saturday about a person being thrown from a moving vehicle, according to a news release. The incident happened on SC-19, also known as Edgefield Highway, near Jack Jones Street — north of Aiken.
Deputies found a man with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper torso, the sheriff’s office said. Witnesses told deputies the man had been pushed out of a dark-colored, four-door car that did not stop.
The man was identified as Jonathan M. Cochran, by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables. The 36-year-old Aiken resident had a gunshot wound and is believed to have been thrown from a vehicle, Ables said.
An autopsy to determine the cause of death will be conducted Monday.
Witnesses rendered aid to Cochran until deputies and EMS responded; however, he was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
