One person dead in fiery car crash Thursday in Newberry County

NEWBERRY COUNTY, SC One person was killed Thursday morning in a car crash on Wheeland School Road in Newberry County.

The driver of a 2007 BMW was pronounced dead on the scene of the single vehicle accident about 2 and a half miles south of Little Mountain.

The car was headed west on Wheeland School Road around 6:40 am when it ran off the side of the road, hit a tree and burst into flames, trooper Tony Keller of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.

“May take some time before a positive ID is confirmed,” Newberry County Coroner Craig Newton said vie email.

The Newberry County Coroner and South Carolina Highway Patrol continue to investigate.
